Courtesy of the Schenectady Museum, SCHS recently acquired a massive collection of artifacts that were once owned by Helen Livingston Mynderse, the last of a line of a mostly Dutch family that traced it roots back to some of the earliest settlers in Schenectady. This exhibit will highlight a small sampling of this donation, parts of the ceramic, textile, and doll collection. Also on display will be objects such as powder horns, furniture, and paper objects. This is a great opportunity to see a one of a kind collection that spans the 18th through the 20th century.

Free to members – $5 to non-members

From the volunteer era, to the first professional department, fire fighting has been an integral aspect of life in Schenectady. This exhibit shows the evolution of firefighting in the City of Schenectady from the early 1700s on through to the 20th century. This exhibit also highlights some of the more interesting fires to occur in Schenectady’s history. Included in this night will be a brief talk on the history of Schenectady Fire Department by Dr. Lyle Barlyn.
